"What Are Folk Like?"

Burlesque Blues (Justin Ward)

Burlesque Blues, cleverly in Bb, is from seeing a (Scottish) burlesque dancer on Britain's Got Talent and imagining she was an old girlfriend, mixed up with three other people I used to be in varying degrees of love with. Yes, I have a life now, but the song is a lot of people's favourite.

Bb major.

You're Margarita now, got no use for Maria
And I love what you’ve been doing with your career
All this time must be long enough
I don't see you coming back for your stuff

I hope it'll be like you want it to be
You get your pretty little place by the sea
A room for all your dresses, a room for all your shoes
And a house that's big enough to hide all your burlesque blues

What about your number on my phone

I have to remember to leave it alone
All those figures on the screen

I could wipe them forever but not what they mean

I hope it'll turn out the way you planned

A diamond as big as the Ritz on your hand
A room for all your dresses, a room for all your shoes
A house that's big enough to hide all those burlesque blues

I'll never get used to that new name

Maybe that's because the act is the same
Not that it matters all that much

Maybe that's why we don't keep in touch

I hope it'll end like a fairytale

And not the usual closing down sale
A room for all your dresses, a room for all your shoes
A home that's big enough to hide your burlesque blues

I hope it’ll be all you wanted and more

You’ll have somebody smooth to get the phone and the door
With a room for all your pictures, and a room for all your books
And a room for all your hats, and a room for all your bags
A room for your dog, and a room for your cats
A room for your jewellery, and a room for your jars
And rooms for all your friends and all of their booze
A room for your dresses, a room for your shoes,
In a house that’s big enough to hide all their burlesque blues.
