"What Are Folk Like?"

The Land of Milk and Honey (Justin Ward)

This song came from a throwaway remark about Glasgow 'not being the land of milk and honey'. It turned out a sort of chilled-out protest song. Also trying to get every verse to rhyme with

'time', and take it from there.

C major

I came to the land of milk and honey
And I couldn't believe my eyes
Banks all running out of money
And the government running out of lies
Armyrunning out of ammunition
And the police running out of crime
I came to the land of milk and honey
And the whole place was running out of time
The whole place was running out of time

I came to the land of plenty

And I couldn't believe what I saw
All those places empty

And the prisons couldn't hardly close the door
The writers just run out of reasons

Poets all run out of rhyme
I came to the land of milk and honey

The whole place was running out of time
The whole place was running out of time

I came to the land of dreams

And I couldn't believe what I found
Fat cats busting at the seams

Running everything into the ground
Papers running out of stories

All they wanted was the temperature to climb
I came to the land of milk and honey

The whole place was running out of time
The whole place was running out of time

I came to the land fit for heroes

And I couldn't really understand
Calculators running out of zeroes

The whole thing was getting out of hand
The bars were running out of flavours

They had nothing left but coconut and lime
They'd run right out of milk and honey

The whole place was running out of time
The whole place was running out of time
